How often do you check the power cords on your tanning beds?
If you can’t remember the last time you checked, then perhaps you should go have a look now. Doing so could save your thousands of dollars and a lot of down time.
Don't Wait
Loose power cables can cause major damage to your beds – from single bulbs burning out to a full electrical meltdown. If a power cable is too loose, the pins inside the plug connection can break or bend leading to lights burning out or, the worst-case scenario, an electrical arc that can melt both your power cord and possibly your tanning bed.
Do It Now!
Every time a customer climbs into one of your tanning beds the canopy moves up and down or side to side, creating friction for the power cord connection. Meanwhile, the drastic temperature changes caused by beds being turned off and on can also cause a power cord to come loose. That loose connection is hard on a bed’s circuitry since it’s not getting the power draw that it needs to function at full capacity.
Seriously, Right Now...
So, instead of waiting around for an electrical meltdown, start checking your power cords and ballast tray as part of your monthly rigorous cleaning schedule. The ballast tray is usually found under the tanning bed and it holds the bed’s electrical components. While you’re down there, give it a quick vacuum and wipe-down too. Ballast trays are notorious for collecting dust and if there’s ever an electrical spark, it could start a fire.
This post may seem like all fire and brimstone, but don’t worry - your beds aren’t all moments away from catching on fire. That said, it’s still important to check your cords regularly and keep the ballast tray clean and free from debris.
