Successfully Sailing Rough Economic Seas - Part 2Posted by Bill Pipp in Untagged |
In Part 1 , we looked at how we cannot control the economy, the “shifting wind” in our sailing analogy, but we can control how our company responds to the situation and maintain a positive outlook, starting with the folks in leadership positions. Now, we come to the second part in this series where we further examine the power of attitude and its role in today’s business climate.<br />
The Power of Attitude
In my opinion, attitude is 80% of everything. Thinking of the positive will help you focus your mind on success and keep everybody tuned in on the good things that are happening. Projecting the positive in every way possible should be an everyday goal for anyone “steering the rudder” at a tanning salon or tanning bed distribution center.
It doesn’t mean that the challenging times are not there but don’t needlessly talk about them. There's more than enough negativity on the TV or in the newspapers. When destructive negative talk surfaces, tactfully neutralize it and move on.
Your concern should be staying positive and for good reason – Think about this: People want to be around successful people. Your customers want to deal with successful people, your vendors and even your employees want to be doing business with a successful company.
Successful people are positive people.
Anything you say or do that doesn’t represent you as a successful company just serves to make your customers, vendors and employees question in their minds whether yours is the right company to do business with.
The Wind Has Shifted
So how can you steer your business in these shifty and uncertain winds? Well, we know that negativity will not help you find solutions at all. But by focusing on the positive, you are promoting a mindset that will look for innovations, ways to overcome and find success.
Yes, involve your key employees in the process of coming up with positive actions to help your company stay in front or, if you've fallen behind... get back in front.
Identify your company’s strengths and use them as leverage to move forward even in these trying times. Keeping a positive attitude will help you get the answers you need to address your company’s concerns effectively.
The Wind Will Shift Again
When the economy rebounds, and it will, the good companies will sail past the others which at that point may just be treading water or already sinking because of their failure to avoid negativity in their ranks.
By positively addressing your company’s affairs, you will be in good shape to withstand this economic storm and gain considerable advances in the market now and in the years to come.
How To Set Yourself Up For Success
Next up in our series, the third and last part will outline a counterintuitive strategy that will set your business up to succeed despite current economic challenges.
