11/6/2007 INDIANAPOLIS – A local tanning company is giving Hamilton County its first state-of-the-art tanning spa experience with two new area salons.
Tan Zone has one salon already open at 14765 Hazel Dell Crossing in the Noble West Plaza in Noblesville. The other is scheduled to open for business the second week of November at 218 W. 161st St. in Springmill Commons in Westfield.
“To find the right location for a tanning salon, I look at the complete demographic makeup of an area, including income and population. Throughout my years in the business, Hamilton County is the best location for a tanning salon that I have ever seen,” said owner Patrick Daly.
A graduate of Ferrum College in Virginia, Daly said he wanted to get into the salon business since he was young. He opened three tanning salons in Danville, Va., wanting to offer something new to customers. “I always felt that the tanning business was a bit behind the times,” he said. “I thought I could offer the latest technology and newest products that hadn’t been available to customers before.”
That is why Daly turned to Indianapolis-headquartered ETS Tan, the world’s largest manufacturer of indoor tanning beds. Daly met ETS regional sales manager Clay Lickliter in 2004 at the Indoor Tanning Association’s World Tanning Expo in Nashville, Tenn. “Clay directed me with information and advice on how to go down the right path in this particular business,” Daly said. Lickliter helped Daly set up his tanning salons in Virginia and Daly told Lickliter to keep his eyes open for any other areas that would be prime spots for tanning in the future.
As Hamilton County residents for 17 years, Lickliter and his wife Amy noticed the Noble West Plaza and Springmill Commons areas as potential tanning hotspots. After its purchase in May 2007, the first Tan Zone salon opened in Noblesville on Oct. 22 with 3,300 square feet of space. “We had a good first opening day and we look to start serving more people once both salons open their doors,” said Amy Lickliter, Tan Zone regional manager and operator. Both salons will offer a unique experience featuring the latest in high-pressure tanning and skin rejuvenation facial treatments.
The Tan Zone in Noblesville offers five levels of tanning with 22 ETS Tan beds, including the Solaris 336, Solaris 442, SolarForce 648, SS755, SolarForce 652V and SS756V. These beds are powered by Wolff® system lamps and offer advanced after-tan cooling systems. The salon also offers exciting additions to traditional tanning with the Rejuvasun 332 and Velocity™ HP1000 beds.
The Velocity HP1000 has a futuristic design and offers a 360-degree ultra-pressure tanning experience providing a deep, rich, long-lasting tan. It also offers several special features, such as an integrated stereo system with four speakers, a subwoofer and a powerful, total-body cooling system.
ETS Tan’s Rejuvasun Spa bed features revolutionary light technology, offering customers beauty treatments and tanning all in one single unit. Clients can experience beauty-enhancing light therapy sessions only, tanning only or combine both in one 20-minute session. “I think the Rejuvasun is what sets us apart from some of the other salons in the state and each of our locations will have four units,” Amy Lickliter said. “The spa bed will also help us to be less seasonal, bringing in customers all year round.”
The Tan Zone in Westfield will offer 23 beds in a trendier atmosphere with vibrant colors to create a younger feel. Both salons will also offer a MyMyst™ Mystic Tan booth along with air conditioning and a changing area in each room.
When entering the room, each bed has a pair of tanning goggles on a towel with a sign, “This sunbed has been sanitized.” Lickliter said all employees go through extensive training and are required to complete specific cleaning duties. “We really stress cleanliness,” she said. “After each customer leaves, we disinfect the bed and clean every surface in the room – including the door handle and changing area.”
In addition to a focus on cleanliness, each Tan Zone employee is also Smart-Tan certified. “The Smart Tan certification is a comprehensive educational model with in-depth instruction on every facet of the tanning industry,” Lickliter said. “The primary goal of Smart Tan is to educate tanning salon operators on skincare and the importance of not over exposing their clients’ skin while building a healthy tan. We want each customer to know that we care about them and their skin.”
Tan Zone carries skin products and lotions by Australian Gold and Swedish Beauty, sister companies of ETS Tan, and is operated using software designed by Helios LLC, also a sister company to ETS Tan that is a leader in providing tanning salon management and customer data software.
The salons also offer customers convenient tanning hours, open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. As a special, Tan Zone is now offering free tanning for any Level 1 bed through Nov. 30.
“Our wide selection of beds and sunless treatments along with exceptional customer service are what we believe will make Tan Zone a place that people can come to truly relax and thoroughly enjoy a small part of their day,” Lickliter said.
